Furry Tongue

If your tongue is taking on the characteristics of a furry wild animal, it may be time to re-evaluate how you’re treating your normally tame tongue.

Types of Furry Tongue

Furry tongues come in different varieties: white or black. The white variety is often a film of bacterial growth on the surface of the tongue. A white furry tongue with a thick white coating could be a sign of oral thrush or Candida albicans, types of yeast and bacterial growth.
A white furry tongue is normally painless, but it can cause bad breath and discomfort when eating if it is not treated. Both types of white furry tongue can be treated with antibiotics.
Black furry tongue, sometimes known as black hairy tongue, is usually the result of overgrown papillae on the surface of the tongue that are stained by food. The papillae, which are normally only 1 mm long, can grow longer than 1 cm.
This, again, is harmless; however, the long papillae can cause a gagging feeling in the back of the throat, and can cause accumulation of bacteria, starting types of bacterial white furry tongue on top of the over grown papillae. Talk about a double-whammy tongue monster!
Causes of Furry Tongue

There are no exact reasons for why furry tongue hits, though there are some suspect risk factors. Use of tobacco and alcohol, too much sugar in the diet, use of oxidizing mouth wash, HIV infections, over growth of oral fungus, and poor oral hygiene can all increase the possibility of having a furry tongue.
Treatments for Furry Tongue

The best way to treat a furry tongue is to brush your tongue! Now, using a tooth brush might get a little of the bad stuff off your tongue, but it won’t get the stuff stuck in between your taste buds.

The best thing to use is an Orabrush. The Orabrush is designed to pull that bacterial gunk from the surface of your tongue, helping to cure that white furry tongue problem. And brushing your tongue can also wear down over grown papillae that cause black furry tongue.

Basically, no matter what kind of furry tongue animal you are unfortunate enough to be housing in your mouth, you should use an Orabrush to get rid of it. Taming your tongue has never been easier.

Better Than a Toothbrush!

Ultra-soft, pointed bristles reach deep into the uneven crevices of your tongue and loosen stinky bacteria. These bristles are designed after the surgeon's scrub brush, the same brush they use to clean bacteria from their hands before they cut you open. (Toothbrush bristles, however, are designed for the smooth surfaces of your teeth, not your tongue.) The scraper then collects and removes the bacteria and residue generated from brushing, helping cure bad breath.

"[Dr. Bob] knew that toothbrushes, made for hard surfaces, would not work as well on tongues.
